Bad for my pocket

but oh so lovely! More kate spade stuff I found while surfing the Internet.

Mabel
Black patent oxfords! I love to own a pair of oxfords but have never found a pair that is both smart and comfortable. These look pretty with the wide ribbon as laces.

Headphones Earmuffs
I can imagine wasting precious minutes trying to match the 'L' to my left ear while freezing in the cold. Hahaha! Absolutely dumb (that's me) but oh so cute (the earmuffs!)

Over Here Mittens
One of the earliest books I read when I was a kid is about three kittens which kept losing their mittens. Ever since then I have always wanted to wear mittens. Not that I have a chance to, not with this blasting hot weather Singapore is enveloped in 365 days, 24/7.

Taxi Mittens
And these are my absolute favourite! I actually considered buying them! They are so bright and so me! I'm forever standing by the road trying to flag down a cab. But again, in reality, I won't have a chance to wear them here. I'd look like a serious nutcase should I wear mittens in Singapore. Damn it.

My brain is dead and I cannot think of a title

The pictures have nothing to do with the post. I am just amazed at how great the iphone 4 camera is! :)

'Quick and curious' postcard

'Understated is overrated' ribbon

And my post? My post is completely unprofessional because I'm gonna whine about work. Work sucks these days and my work means a lot to me. Usually when things aren't looking up, I go shopping but when the thought of shopping feels like dead weight, I know I'm getting a little more than just depressed.

Too many loose ends to tie up, too little time to complete. Too many days of leave to clear, I think I will end up forfeiting some. And yes that sucks big time because damn it! I'm entitled to that leave! Though rightfully it's nobody's fault but mine. I should not have accumulated so many days over the last few years. Which sucks even more. To be royal pissed and have nobody but myself to blame SUCKS. Yeah yeah, I'm whiny and sounding like an annoying 13 year old here.

Seriously, I don't know how many more 'you're doing it wrong!' tantrums will come my way before the year is up. It's strange I'm getting a torrent of it at this point in time because it has mostly been 'good job!' for the last few years. I don't think I've grown lazier or nonchalant at work. But all of a sudden I'm 'doing it wrong' in every possible way. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I am leaving the job and moving on. :(

God! I'm becoming a non-contributing zero!!

Sweet gesture

An ex-student wrote me a long email the other day. She asked if I would like to buy a 2012 calendar for 10 bucks. The money goes to some animal shelter (I didn't read it very carefully, the email was seriously long!) and she was trying to get as many people to help so she wrote everyone a personal email.

I like animals and didn't think $10 was too much to ask. Plus the student is a very big-hearted girl whom I have known to be an animal lover since she was 11. She is now 21 and even more of an animal welfare activist than ever.

I paid, she mailed the calendar, I opened the big brown envelope and saw this.

Awww... I wish I had bought a few more to give as presents!

So as I was flipping through the calendar, admiring the pictures of the cute cats and dogs, my heart completely melting into a pool, a red sticker caught my eye. What's the big deal about that date?

2 May. Ya, I actually did that. I read the date out loud and said: what's happening on 2 May?

Then it occurred to me that that's my birthday! LOL! Please don't ask how much stupidier I can get. You don't really want to know! But how sweet right?? Such a small gesture from my student but that really touched me. :)

Oh and if you want to play a part and get a copy of the calendar, go here. Please if you have $10 to spare, do get one!

At work

Because I shall be leaving the university at the end of the year, I hope to take some photos for remembrance. Remembrance! I know, what a word to use right?! I don't even think it's the right word but oh well, I'm too lazy and stupid to think of something more appropriate.

Anyway, this may in the end turn out to be the one and only post because I don't want to get too sentimental about leaving. Of the 3 schools I've worked at, the uni is my favourite work place. 4 fantastic years out of 11. I know I will miss it much. :)

These flowers sitting on top of a colleague's cabinet are so beautiful I had to take a shot. Mind you, this is just one stalk.

Ignoramus me later found out that the flowers are called hydrangeas and they cost around $30 per stalk.

J, are you reading this?? I'd like a stalk please, thank you! ;)

Window shopping

What I like about window shopping is that you don't always have to buy. You can stop, look, admire and then walk away.

Looking at kate spade's new arrivals each month is somewhat like window shopping to me. I look, I drool and then I get over it. :)

For now, it's still the drooling phase. Lol!

Night Owl Bag - It's so cute! And perfect for a night out for drinks.

Algonquin Campbell - I have a thing for dull oversized bags. This one is great for work, papers, files and all.

Windsor Terrace Bon Shopper - A deviation from the usual casual looking bon shopper. I love the roses.

Supercalifragilipstick Small Henrietta - Just by the name alone, I'm sold!

Fashion's Night Out Medium Flat Pouch - So clean and simple, I'm almost sure it's not worth its price. :P

Buckle Up Wide Stretch Bracelet - Love the colour! And so easy to match, especially when you wear jeans.

Online shopping

is addictive and I have to check in to rehab soon. ;)

USPS is my best friend! It brings me lovely loots.

And this is the flavour of the month. :)
I'm not a Coach fan but this one is just too pretty!

Men!

Oh, these sure make me wonder if they originated from a different planet.

Yes, we know it's hot. Come on it's summer in China. But really? Rolling up your shirt isn't exactly cool.

Oh sir I know it's the trend but your sense of fashion baffles me!

This one is from the family of perennial idiots I am bound to meet on any holiday. The one who walks RIGHT in front of your camera while you are trying to take a picture. Hello?! Oh! Did you want me to take a picture of the back of your head? Wait, is that dandruff I see?? As you can see, this idiot doesn't mind someone blocking him when he takes a picture but not everyone is a sloppy photographer like him.

Here's another from the same family. He too wasn't even just passing by and happened to walk into my picture when I was trying to take a picture of a lady's swingpack (that one on the left). He had walked up in front of my camera and stopped to take a picture. What the @#&%?!?

And of course at the theatre watching an acrobatics performance, I had to sit next to a guy who took off his shoes. Mind you he didn't just discreetly remove his shoes. He did it with great gusto and then placed them neatly next to his feet. He was making himself so comfortable that I half expected him to recline in his seat and whip out a can of beer from nowhere!

二锅头

has got to be the most potent thing I have ever drunk in Beijing! Oh wait, or in my entire life for the matter!

It's like vodka except its alcoholic content is 56%!

I took one little sip and almost died! Oh yes, we drink it neat! It 'burns' whichever part of the body it touches, tongue, mouth, throat, stomach. After two sips, my whole body was so warm, I thought I was running a fever. This tiny bottle of 100ml was shared by 6 adults, 6 useless foreigners who took baby sips while at the next the table a few Mainland Chinese were merrily drinking a bottle each! Hilarious.

二锅头! Oh, 二锅头! I wish I had bought a bottle of this rice wine! One of my MA professors and J's current colleague swears by it and we heard he bought two big bottles home!

Peaches

are everywhere in China!

This one is incredulously big! It's the size of a grapefruit, actually no, it's probably bigger than a grapefruit.

Lady selling the peaches insisted that J buy a whole bag for RMB12 (less than SGD3).

She's smiling because she probably fleeced us! The peaches were big but not sweet and apparently they were sold a lot cheaper elsewhere. But oh well, it's just a few dollars. :)
